Event outline

The 13th State of the Browser, we are looking for talks which outline the best of what browsers by leveraging best practices and standards. This year we are at a familiar venue, the fantastic Barbican Centre, in the Frobisher Room, a 250-seat cinema.

History

London Web Standards

London Web Standards brings together web professionals who are working for a better web. Our monthly meetups provide them with an opportunity to teach, inspire, learn, network and debate. Each meetup features a speaker drawn from our membership or the wider standards community. The talks cover a range of topics including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, accessibility, web fonts, Design Systems, UX and front-end performance.

We have recently restarted our monthly meetups hosted at Greenwich University.

State of the Browser - The story so far

In 2011 London Web Standards organised a one day conference focusing on the ‘State of the Browser’ at Ravensbourne. The Event was attended by 140 web professionals. The event was streamed live over the internet and at its peak was watched by over 200 people. The conference was then repeated in 2012 and 2013, with 175 delegates. In 2014 we moved to a new venue, the lovely, historic Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Holborn. In 2014 and 2015 we had close to 400 attendees. In 2016 we took a year off and returned in 2017 & 2018. Due to COVID we had a year off in 2020 and returned with one of the country’s first in-person (and online) events in October 2021. This year we will be returning to the fabulous Barbican Centre, for a third time.

Previous Years

Feedback

Good vibes all round. It was like the olden days of the web but in a good way. Also, no swag means no landfill—hugely appreciate that. Diversity of content/talks was on point. It’s nice not to be at a JS-heavy front-end event.

Just wanted to say what a wonderful time I had yesterday - it’s definitely up there with the best conferences I’ve ever been to. Every talk was excellent. Can’t wait to come as an attendee next year!

Another awesome #SotB. Fantastic speakers, friendly faces and, as always, a wonderful sense of community. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

#SotB was absolutely brilliant - thank you so much the @webstandards team and all the great speakers! See you all next year!

#SotB was awesome: educational; awareness-raising; entertaining and of course motivating! Many thanks to all of the organisers, presenters and everyone for coming. It was great getting to natter! :-)

Woke up buzzing about the web, our community and inspired to get creative again - thanks so much for such a brilliant day!

I really enjoyed #SotB yesterday. Really insightful talks and how nice to mix with a group of real people again!

Philosophy

State of the Browser and London Web Standards, is not and never has been about money, we are all about the community. This is why we aim to keep the cost of the conference to a minimum just to cover our costs, we pride ourselves in putting on a conference with one of the lowest costs, only to allow us to cover the expenses.

We have partnered with Greenwich University to allow their Web Content & Design - MA students to attend for free.

We will offer the diversity ticket scheme again this year, as we are committed to welcoming people from all walks of life.

As volunteers we do not profit from the conference income, every penny is invested in this and future events.

Sponsorship

Although we have a strict no sharing policy to respect our subscribers' privacy, by sponsoring State of the Browser 2025 you will have the opportunity to interact with up to 500 (in person and virtually) web professionals at the event.

We will promote your brand before, during and after the event via our mailing list, social media accounts, event website and talks.

There will also be a sponsors channel on the event’s discord server, where you will be able to share and communicate with the attendees.

The event is also filmed, streamed live and available online once the event has ended.
