History
A brief history of State of the Browser over the last decade.
State of the Browser and London Web Standards are not and have never been about money — we are all about enriching the community. This is why we aim to keep the cost of our conference to a minimum and break even each year so that we’re able to offer the most value at as low a ticket price as we can manage.
London Web Standards
London Web Standards brings together web professionals who are working for a better web. Our monthly meetups provide them with an opportunity to teach, inspire, learn, network and debate.
Each meetup features a speaker drawn from our membership or the wider standards community. The talks cover a range of topics including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, accessibility, web fonts, design system, UX, and front-end performance.
State of the Browser - The story so far
In 2011 London Web Standards organised a one day conference focusing on the ‘State of the Browser’ at Ravensbourne. The Event was attended by 140 web professionals. The event was streamed live over the internet and at its peak was watched by over 200 people. The conference was then repeated in 2012 and 2013, with 175 delegates. In 2014 we moved to our new venue, the lovely, historic Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Holborn. In 2014 and 2015 we had close to 400 attendees. In 2016 we took a year off and returned in 2017 & 2018. Due to COVID we had a year off in 2020 and returned with one of the country’s first in-person (and online) events in October 2021. A year after we were at the fabulous Barbican Centre. This year we are aiming to replicate the success at this wonderful venue.
